Did you know that last year Pinterest’s trend predictions for 2020 were 80% correct? If you’re not paying attention to Pinterest’s Predicts, it’s time to take it seriously! The team at Pinterest gather data from pin activity and searches over the past 12 months. It’s a bit like Google Trends!
In a small series, I’m going to unpack some of my favourite predictions for 2022. Explaining how they’re relevant to businesses in the design, fashion and beauty spaces (my areas of specialism).
What is the Bestie Aesthetic?
This trend is being led by Gen Z – but it’s still relevant for other ages! Post pandemic, there’s a real desire to be close with our friends. Whether it’s through gift packages, videos with “Best Friend (feat. Doja Cat)” by Saweetie or shared Pinterest boards, best friend culture is thriving!

Lean into the trend
Fashion for the bestie aesthetic
All things matching are trending right now. From complementary or matching outfits (see Olivia & Alice or mum and daughter fashncurious duo for inspiration!)
Create instagrammable matching pieces, partner with influencers like the above or lean into unconventional holidays focusing on friendship in 2022.

Pinterest says to focus on tech gifts that keep people connected with their bestie, from wearables to workout tracking devices to walkie-talkies. If you work in beauty focus on tutorials that complement each other.
Design for the bestie aesthetic
Again, this is all about complementary designs, things that can be mixed and matched! If you’re a graphic designer, why not look at creating freebies for social channels? Sharing quizzes or complementary phone backgrounds for besties.
